Indonesian Barrel Boogie pairs two very different coffees from the same region with two very different barrel applications. Sumatra aged in a sour beer barrel and wine barrel aged Java Blawan! This is the first time coffee has been aged in a barrel previously containing sour beer as far as I can tell.
Fair trade, organic Sumatra was added to a charred whiskey barrel that held a sour dark ale for a year. After 3 months the barrel gods deemed the coffee beans ready to roast and I stuck with a classic Sumatran dark profile... This creates a very interesting coffee with a super unique chocolately bitterness from the sour whiskey barrel. A must try!
Java Blawan is a small coffee bean that is difficult to roast but has a very unique citrus, berry like flavor naturally... When aged on red wine barrel staves for 4 months all these flavors are elevated creating an oakey, floral and amazing berry flavor. Another must try!
